Your weekend begins with a Haunted Tour through the Brooksville Cemetery originally named the Chocochattee Cemetery.

The Brooksville Cemetery began official operation in April 1887 although many citizens were already buried there. The earliest documented burial is that of Charlotte Crum in September, 1842 she was beheaded by Indians who were unaware of the wars end. The earliest marked grave is that of Jane Hope, who died in 1845.

Brooksville Cemetery is the resting place for over 5000 souls and includes veterans from the Civil war, both Confederate and Union soldiers.

Walk the haunted streets and brick roads of downtown Brooksville past the court house where the hanging tree still stands. the courthouse was burned to the ground and many record were lost.  The fire was believed to have been set.

June 5, 1879. The Sunland Tribune reports that Judge William B. Center was shot and killed near Brooksville and carries an editorial complaining about crime in the county, the burning of the court house and killing of witnesses. [It was believed that Center was about to identify the person responsible for the burning of the courthouse and he was killed to keep him quiet.]

This photo is of a Ku Klux Klan parade in downtown Brooksville in 1922.

Hernando County had the highest rate of violence against blacks in the United States, according to a study of recorded lynchings between 1900 and 1931 and many involved armed mobs.

Notice the Orbs in the photos. How many hangings took place??

Brooksville has an unsettling violent history.

July 23, 1881. The Tampa Guardian reports:
It really does seem that Hernando County is doomed to be the scene of more murders than any other place in the State. There is scarcely a week that passes but what some sort of crime is committed in that county. There appears to be a dreadful fascination, with the people of that locality, both white and black, in the taking of human life. Within the last three weeks no less than five murders have been committed in that county. First, the two children of Mr. Mickler, killed by Sidney King, then followed the murder of King by lynching; next was a man by the name of Ashley, killed while catching his horse on his own premises by unknown parties. The fifth and last, is the killing of a colored man named Abe Timmons by T. J. Pearce, better known as T. J. Cook, of Brooksville.

You'll be staying 2 nights in a haunted home where ghosts have been seen walking the halls and the grounds. Mostly the ghostly shadow of a young man, possibly the man that took his life in the far corner of the property or maybe the victim of an earlier murder or lynching.

Following the Haunted Tours we will return back to the home front to relax and enjoy Live Entertainment and Bar-B-Que.  You can also have a personal Rune Readings (Friday night only $25.00 per reading) reservations must be made in advance.

In the morning we will be on the river and one with nature on our all day canoe tour with our tour guide Bruce.  Experience the vortex and the caves, cleanse in the Springs.  During the winter months the manatee enjoy the river too and like to swim along.

The Chassahowitzka River is one of the more scenic rivers in Florida. Accessible only by boat or canoe, the Chassahowitzka is one of the state's most peaceful and calming spring fed rivers.

Dirt road leading into Spring Hill Cemetery

It is said that at dusk orbs hover around the dirt road leading into the cemetery. It is said the the Orbs are the unrested souls of those that were tortured and hung. It is also said that the ghosts of a man can be seen hanging from a tree inside the cemetery.

The front of the Courthouse in downtown Brooksville.

Notice the amount of orbs. How many were hung here?

Taken in the house, we'll leave it to your imagination.
